"So Where Do You Go At Night?" A trip to the South Seas and Alaska

Boat on reef

49th wave
“Once aground on a reef a sailboat is virtually lost forever; there would be little chance of getting back to sea.” Start of reef in the background.

“Water was flowing against us across the coral and it should have been a warning. After a while our exploration of these colourful waters came to an abrupt halt when a huge breaker crashed down, the 49th wave, perhaps the 149th, and we could see a 1 – 2 foot high wave tearing towards us. We yelled, ‘Get down, hang on tight to the coral.’”
